Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; NM teaching License with endorsements as needed.
Skills/Aptitudes:
Good organizational ability; good written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.
Essential Job Responsibilities of Teacher:
Works cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators. Demonstrates ethical behavior. Follows district policies and administrative rules and regulations. Follows District Code of Conduct policies. Maintains behavior appropriate to performing and accomplishing assigned duties. Maintains a suitable personal appearance as it relates to position. Communicates accurately and effectively in the content area and maintain a professional rapport with students. Obtains feedback from and communicates with students in a manner which enhances student learning and understanding. Utilizes a variety of teaching methods and resources with students who are exceptional and their teachers. Encourages the development of student involvement, responsibility, and critical thinking skills. Manages the classroom to ensure the best use of instructional time. Creates an atmosphere conducive to learning, self-discipline Follows board policies and administrative rules and regulations. Communicates accurate and current information to students in a way that enhances student learning, and includes demonstrating effective writing skills, and use of standard English. Manages time appropriately. Cooperates with administration, parents, and colleagues. Creates a positive atmosphere and arranges the physical environment of the classroom for optimum learning. Develops annual Individual Education Plans (IEP) using district provided program for all students assigned to the teachers caseload prior to the due date of the IEP. Gathers all information needed for diagnostic re-evaluation and submits to the site assigned diagnostician 4 weeks prior to the evaluation due date. Schedules all IEP meetings prior to the IEP due date. Implements IEP's and collects all data to support implementation of IEP. Collaborates with site administrator to address student behavior as needed. Conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments and composes Behavior Intervention Plans as needed. Complies with all IDEA-B laws. Collaborates with general education teachers and other service providers to ensure that students who are exceptional receive appropriate instruction. Demonstrates concern for student's well-being and positive esteem. Takes precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by the school district, and reports progress or lack thereof to parents in a timely manner. Attends and participates in faculty meetings. Completes duties (hall, bus, etc.) as assigned. Leaves adequate preparations for a substitute. Develops and implements appropriate classroom management strategies while maintaining high expectations for student behavior. Encourages cooperation between students. Maintains student involvement in appropriate tasks. Uses and applies appropriate conflict resolution skills. Demonstrates public relations skills. Uses appropriate techniques, strategies, and materials to achieve the desired instructional goal. Adapts the curriculum to meet the needs of individual students. Uses current technology for instruction and management purposes. Uses diagnostic data to improve instructional programs. Selects, uses, and interprets evaluation data. Maintains availability to parents, students, administration, and peers outside the school day, if needed. Attends extracurricular activities. Spends time beyond the school day grading, and recording papers, planning instruction, etc. Reports suspected child abuse and neglect. Monitors students on field trips and is accountable for each student. Acts as a good role model within the context of the school. Supervises educational assistants, practicum students, student teachers, and high school vocational lab students. Develops and uses community and professional resources. Understands and applies learning theories. Performs other job duties as assigned.
