Assigned School Summary:
The Navajo Dual Language teacher will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are developmentally appropriate for each student learning environment and teach and instruct in the Diné language utilizing a 50/50 language model. The Navajo Dual Language teacher will be responsible for creating and maintaining a dual-language classroom environment ensuring that content and context of the 50/50 immersion model is implemented.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate knowledge of content areas approved for District or State curriculum. ? Utilize a variety of instructional teaching methods and strategies conducive to a 50/50 model. ? Implement technology into instruction. ? Hands-on and engaging instruction. ? Motivate and encourage students to become independent learners. ? Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Communicate with and obtain feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding. ? Comprehend the principles of second language acquisition growth, development and learning, and apply them appropriately. ? Utilize formative and summative student assessments to determine instruction Recognize student diversity and create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept. ? Modify language assignments for special needs students that participate in the Language Program based on their Individual Education Plans. ? Supervise educational assistants and work with a team teacher as necessary ? Utilize data for instruction ? Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and community members ? Implement student participation through District programs, (science fair knowledge bowl, etc) ? Provide two performance programs yearly that allows students to demonstrate language, culture, and talent through assemblies. ? Create lesson plans that are aligned to: Diné Content Standards, and Pacing Guides set forth by the school district. Attend and participate in building PLC meetings and other building required training. Other duties as assigned, reasonably related to the scope of the position ? Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure Perform other job responsibilities related to Dinè language, culture and history. Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local/state/federal laws. Native American Language and Culture or ? Valid New Mexico teaching license ? NM PED endorsements (TESOL or Bilingual) as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Dinè language, culture and history Must read, write and speak Navajo Ability to work well with children, parents and administrators Ability to remain calm and be professional at all times Ability to work well under pressure Ability to multitask
Physical/Job Requirements:
