A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Qualifications:
Working knowledge of Next Generation Learning Standards and NY state assessments The ability and commitment to use technology as an instructional tool Ability to differentiate instruction for delayed learners Flexibility, enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to develop programs and collaborate with and support other staff Loyalty and evidence of being a team player and willingness to collaborate with staff Commitment to equity and inclusion of all members of the school community Strong understanding of the LCSD strategic plan and culturally responsive sustaining framework Strong understanding of positive classroom management techniques Strong understanding of special education regulations
Requirements:
New York State certification in students with disabilities at the grades Kindergarten to four levels
