Our mission is to provide students with the academic skills necessary to succeed in competitive high school programs, college, and the career of their choice. Position Overview Amani Public Charter School is recruiting a mission-aligned Special Education/Inclusion Teacher to provide academic services to our students with special needs within an Integrated Co-Teaching/Resource Model. This teacher will work as a cohesive unit with general education teachers across four core disciplines and support specific students on daily skills practice tied to current IEP goals, helping 5th-8th grade students build the academic skills necessary to succeed in competitive high school programs, college, and the career of their choice. The ideal candidate is a positive, flexible, organized, and innovative educator who is committed to the belief that all children can learn and to closing the achievement gap.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning & Delivery Provide direct support to students in a classroom by delivering specialized instruction and ensuring learning through a variety of co-teaching models and strategies. Provide small group skill instruction through a daily resource room pull-out program. Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons, and learning environment. Co-design classroom activities and differentiated lessons so that all students meet their IEP goals and can access the curriculum. IEP Development & Compliance Create comprehensive IEP documents by analyzing student evaluations and identifying areas of strength and weakness that align with annual measurable goals. Formally and informally assess student learning, analyze this data to create a comprehensive learning program, and track progress toward IEP goals. Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction Use formative and summative assessment strategies to assess learner progress and use data to plan ongoing instruction. Be accountable for students' mastery of IEP goals and academic standards. Classroom Culture & Student Support Implement a variety of behavior management techniques that increase positive student engagement. Create a positive, structured learning environment in which students observe the school's core values, high expectations, and code of conduct. Collaboration Work collaboratively with co-teachers, grade-level teams, and the instructional support team to plan, share student work, and ensure instruction is aligned with identified curriculum and standards. Family & Community Engagement Build a partnership with families, encouraging their active participation in students' learning. Communicate effectively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues. Professional Growth Participate in an annual staff orientation and training. Engage fully in ongoing professional development and coaching. Location and Commitments School day is 7:45 AM - 4:00 PM. School year runs from the third week in August through the end of June. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education required. NYS Teaching Certification strongly encouraged. Proficiency in Google Suite and Google Classroom preferred. Previous experience with IEP implementation and co-teaching models preferred.
