A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description Elementary Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher Anticipated October 5, 2026

•December 22, 2026 Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows state-mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Case Manager to assigned students.

Salary:

$165.00 per day

Job Qualifications Certifications Required:

New York State Certification for Teaching Students with Disabilities in grades Birth-2nd, 1st-6th, or K-12 Will give consideration to teacher candidates enrolled in teacher preparation programs working toward certification.
