Job Description Program Description:
ELIJA's Transitional Programs and Services ELIJA's Transitional Programs and Services (TPS) is aimed at designing unique customized programming based on a learner's individualized goals. We provide an opportunity for employees to work outside of a traditional school setting. We also provide vocational instruction in workplace behavior, such as appropriate communication and navigating the social environment at work. All newly hired Instructors will receive training to become certified Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
Responsibilities of Position:
ABA
  • Autism Instructor for Adolescents/Young Adults (Plainview, Long Island) Provide quality support services and perform various community and center-based instructional duties.
Instructors support Adolescents/Young Adults with autism in achieving their goals and to promote their dignity, safety, health, and well-being. This program is designed to support Adolescents/Young Adults in a highly structured 1:1, individualized, supervised, community-based environment. Instructors are responsible for teaching students using applied behavior analysis in a one-on-one teaching ratio, utilizing various evidence-based methods including but not limited to discrete trial instruction, natural environment teaching, behavior chaining procedures, incidental teaching, implementing behavior plans, recording and evaluating data, creating and maintaining teaching stimuli, and other duties as needed. Instructors assist in the implementation of programming in a range of areas including peer integration, social interaction, communication, academics, self-help skills, gross-motor and fine-motor skills, language and literacy, functional living skills, behavior management, recreation/leisure, and pre-vocational skills. Instructors assist in the implementation of data collection systems which measure student progress in each of the above areas. They participate in various meetings to review student progress, programs, procedures, teaching techniques, administrative matters, etc. The Instructor is responsible for ensuring the programmatic quality and integrity of all assigned activities. The Instructor will be responsible for working as a team member for the benefit of the participant and the program. The Instructor will report directly to a Clinical Supervisor and Educational Director. The Instructor will receive RBT training and monthly supervision, as well as opportunities for professional development including in-house workshops and attending professional conferences. Instructors must attend all staff meetings and required training.
Qualifications:
  • RBT credential preferred
  • High School Diploma required; Candidate should be enrolled in a 4-year degree within Psychology or Human Services field. BA in a related field preferred.
  • Pursuing a full-time position in a 12-month program.
  • Must have positive work & academic references.
  • Must be energetic, creative, intuitive, and enthusiastic.
  • Must be eager to learn more about the principles of ABA and how to utilize science to teach in individual, small group, and community-based teaching environments.
  • Must have experience and enjoy working with young adults with autism and/or behavioral, social communicative disorders, or mental health.
