A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

  • Help children build the skills they need to thrive What You'll Do As a SEIT, you'll work closely with children, families, classroom teachers, and related service providers to support individualized educational and developmental goals.
Responsibilities include:
Plan and provide individualized instruction and interventions for children ages 3-5 Support children in home, school, daycare, and community-based settings Collaborate with families, educators, and multidisciplinary team members Develop and implement activities aligned with each child's individualized goals Complete timely and accurate session documentation Prepare required quarterly and annual progress reports Participate in required meetings, supervision, and trainings Maintain compliance with HTA and applicable state and regulatory requirements Understand and fulfill all responsibilities as a Mandated Reporter Qualifications Master's Degree in Education ; Early Childhood and/or Special Education preferred Valid New York State Teacher Certification in one of the following: Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2) Students with Disabilities (All Grades) Permanent Special Education Certification Early Childhood and/or Special Education experience preferred Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Must not have been directly employed by the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) within the past year Preferred Experience We especially value candidates with: Experience in Early Intervention, CPSE, preschool, or school-based settings Experience working with children with developmental or educational needs Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Arabic, or other languages Ready for Your Next Opportunity?
