A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

ELIGIBILITY
Preferred NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities (All Grades or 7-12)
REPORTS TO
High School Principal & Director of Special Education
DESCRIPTION
Eligible candidates must plan for, provide, and document instruction to students with disabilities in a 12:1+1 high school life skills setting as mandated on Individual Education Plans. Instruction must be aligned with student goals and objectives and NYS regulations governing the provision of special education services. Candidate must be able to work collaboratively with co-professionals, effectively communicate with parents/guardians, and complete assessments and reporting as appropriate.
DUTIES:
Consult and team with staff to meet the needs of students Individual Education Programs. Complete assessment, documentation and progress monitoring of students individualized goals by collecting and reporting data. Utilize curriculum provided by the district to plan for, provide, and document instruction. Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities on your caseload. Develop and report on students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Attend student's IEP meetings as assigned. Provide parent support and education, as needed. Collaborate with the educational team in supporting student needs across school settings.
QUALIFICATIONS
