PM Job Responsibilities:
Erie 1 BOCES Northtowns Academy seeks a Special Education Short-Term Substitute Teacher (Grades 2-3) for the purpose of covering a family leave for at least 7 weeks. The Special Education Short-Term Substitute Teacher will assume the role of classroom teacher, provide instruction, classroom management and work with assigned staff to support special needs students. Special Education certification is required. Applicants should have a positive outlook, strong work ethic and work well on Teams. Kind and caring individuals are encouraged to apply. Assesses students, both informally and formally, in order to provide an individualized classroom program. Designs plans and appropriate activities to reach individual pupil IE.P.'s. Provides an individualized education program for students with disabilities consisting with New York State Common Core Learning Standards and the program's goals and requirements. Establishes a classroom environment that provides for the student's social/emotional and behavioral needs as well as academic needs including specific systems of motivation to students. Assists and counsels' students in making realistic assessments of their abilities in establishing educational and/or career goals. Keeps attendance records and other reports/records pertinent to the program. Provides, when warranted, continuous consultation and/or management outside of the classroom to appropriate personnel. Provides assistance to students with general education class assignments. Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students in the school's program. Works cooperatively with regular classroom teachers and staff who have students with disabilities interpreting their abilities, disabilities, and meeting the individual needs of the students. Assists other professional staff members in identifying, recommending, and resolving psychological or disciplinary actions unique to the student. Confers frequently with parents, professional staff members, building level administrators, and supervisors regarding the students educational, social/emotional, psychological, behavioral, and intellectual potential. When appropriate, coordinates, and supervises work experience and on-campus job training programs involving students with disabilities. Participates, when appropriate, in continuous professional growth and development related to the field of teaching and/or specific area(s) of expertise. Supervises Teacher Aide. Job Qualifications Must hold a valid NYS Teaching Certification in Students w/Disabilities for grades 2 and 3 Experience in classroom and behavior management preferred; however, newly certified teachers are strongly encouraged to apply Applicants should have a positive outlook, be personally engaging, have a strong work ethic and work well with others.
