PLTW Biomedical Science Instructor Role Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator to join our Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science program. This instructor will be responsible for delivering two rigorous, hands-on high school courses: Human Body Systems (HBS) and Medical Interventions (MI) . The ideal candidate is passionate about clinical medicine, laboratory research, and empowering students to solve real-world medical mysteries through collaborative, problem-based learning. The courses will be taught from the hours of 12:45pm-3:15pm
M-F Key Responsibilities Instructional Delivery:
Facilitate high-level laboratory investigations and simulations
Case-Based Learning:
Guide students through case studies, including diagnosing and treating conditions
Anatomy & Physiology Mastery:
Lead students in hand-on learning as they build clay models of human anatomy
Technical Skill Development:
Teach students to use professional medical equipment
Career Mentorship:
Expose students to a wide range of biomedical careers
Curriculum Management:
Utilize the PLTW online delivery system to manage student-ready handouts, presentations, and interactive 3D models
Required Qualifications & Skills Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biomedical Science, Health Sciences, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Technical Proficiency:
Comfort with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, restriction digests) and data acquisition software.
Soft Skills:
Strong emphasis on fostering clinical empathy , ethical reasoning, and professional communication skills in students.
Adaptability:
Ability to maintain a rigorous pace while building student enthusiasm for complex scientific concepts.
Certification:
Must hold (or be willing to obtain) PLTW Core Training certification for HBS and
MI ANY PERSON WHO KNOWINGLY MAKES A FALSE STATEMENT IS GUILTY OF FALSIFICATION UNDER SECTION 2921.13 OF THE REVISED CODE, WHICH IS A MISDEMEANOR OF THE FIRST DEGREE.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biomedical Science, Health Sciences, or a related field Successful completion of a BCI/FBI background check. Strong understanding of Ohio's Learning Standards and Ohio Teacher Best Practices, including: Differentiated instruction to meet diverse student needs. Incorporating formative and summative assessments to guide instruction. Data-driven decision-making for instructional planning. Culturally responsive teaching practices. Collaborative, student-centered learning approaches. Effective use of technology in the classroom. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Must hold or be willing to obtain Project Lead The Way certification for Human Body Systems and Medical Interventions
