Bachelor's degree and valid Oklahoma certification; meets Oklahoma State Department of Education and Federal standards for a qualified teacher; Experience working with children with challenging behaviors preferred.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
The ability to differentiate instruction, teach multiple grade levels, de-escalate and implement appropriate behavior intervention strategies in response to challenging student behavior, work collaboratively with numerous employees across the district, communicate effectively with parents/guardians and in a manner that builds positive rapport, successful completion of MANDT and CPR certification.
SUMMARY:
Expertly builds strong relationships with students which result in significant and positive growth in students' behavior and academic skills. Works collaboratively with all school stakeholders to assist students in reaching their full potential. Creates a classroom environment that is structured, supportive, and conducive to learning. Establishes clear expectations for pupil behavior and provides a pleasant, safe and orderly classroom climate. Instructs students in curricular activities designed to promote self-discipline, social skill development, and intellectual growth. Applies knowledge of current educational research and theory. Plans and implements lessons based on the needs of assigned students. Complies with the standards of performance and conduct for teachers as set forth by the state department of education. Observes and follows all local, state, and federal mandates, rules, regulations, policies and practices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required. Develops and implements individualized "Student Connect Plans" which address the academic and behavioral needs of students during their time in the Tiger Connect program. Teaches district-provided curriculum, which embraces the goals of continuous school improvement and increasing individual student achievement. Provides explicit, intensive, and accelerated instruction which assists students to develop social, emotional, and behavioral skills necessary for school success. Establishes and consistently implements classroom routines, procedures and behavior management techniques that are developmentally appropriate and effective. Maintains academic focus through the use of a variety of effective instructional techniques which motivate and encourage active student engagement. Communicates frequently and effectively with parents and all other members of a student's support team regarding progress. Actively collaborates with stakeholders to develop transition plans for students. Seeks out and actively participates in relevant, research-based, and district or state-approved professional development and implements what is learned to the benefit of students. Maintains accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Applies training and good judgment when necessary and reasonable precautions must be implemented to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Accepts and performs teaching and any other duties, including co-curricular and extracurricular duties, as assigned by the superintendent and principal as may be needed to maintain the educational programs offered by the District. Attends all meetings as required by the superintendent and principal. Complies with the assigned duty times of the teacher contract day. Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct and maintains confidentiality of student and other professional information.
ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR
: Ability to use sound judgment in any situation. Must be able to respond rapidly and appropriately to the needs of students. Must build harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with administrators, site staff, students and parents.
ATTENDANCE STATEMENT
Able to be in attendance as contracted and for extra duties as assigned per district policy.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Primarily inside working conditions; some exposure to environmental conditions during outside duty.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach. Talking and hearing as to communicate verbally; smell to identify odors; close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) with or without correction; distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) with or without correction; color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; ability to react quickly with no advance warning to secure student safety, including running/chasing student and/or to control student behavior.
