A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Hours:
8:30 am to 3:30 pm Personal Care Assistant -
Learning Support Position Summary:
Support special education services in accordance with the policies and procedures of the assigned school district. Duties may include but are not limited to: assisting in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines; providing direct support to students with special needs; collaborating with special education teachers and other staff; assisting in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans; supporting the scheduling and facilitation of IEP meetings; monitoring and documenting student progress; and participating in problem-solving teams.
Minimum Qualification:
Associate's degree preferred For Upper Darby, the district will accept a photo of the HS diploma or an Official Transcript with signature as the bare minimum requirement to work as a
PCA/PARA
in the district. They will also accept a photo of post-secondary degree earned (ex: associates, bachelors, etc) or Official Transcript with signature. They have expressed they will not accept anyone who has earned a GED. The ParaPro test is not recognized as a credential requirement for this area. Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting Knowledge of special education practices and willingness to learn and apply new strategies Proficient in the use of multi-media and computer technology to support learning Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, administrators, and parents Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
