Job Description

Behavior Support Specialist II, Part-Time - (26000031) Description Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world's best pre-K through 12th grade private schools, where approximately 2,200 students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost-free home and a top-notch education. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed today, with the resources to ensure students can thrive. The school has prepared over 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students. MHS is seeking a Part-Time Behavior Support Specialist II (BSS-II) to provide comprehensive behavior support services to students and staff. This role offers structured learning opportunities that build essential skills for healthy relationships and effective self-management. The BSS-II implements individual skill-building sessions and psychoeducational groups using evidence-based social and emotional learning materials for students in grades PreK-12. Success in this role requires skill in structuring environments, behavior prevention and modification, and crisis intervention, along with strong judgment, flexibility, organization, and time management. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive behavioral management services and structured learning opportunities that support students' social, emotional, and behavioral growth. Deliver individual skill work and psychoeducational skills groups using evidence-based SEL curricula. Implement proactive strategies including environmental structure, behavior prevention, and positive behavior supports. Apply behavior modification strategies and support student skill development for successful interpersonal relationships and self-management. Provide crisis intervention support and follow-up behavioral programming as needed, including during the summer through the Year-Round Education (YRE) program. Partner effectively with Sponsors, Scholastics, Home Life, and Student Health Services through a collaborative, team-based approach. Contribute recommendations and activities that support ethical, appropriate, and comprehensive behavioral interventions as program needs evolve. Maintain professionalism, integrity, and active engagement with students to promote a safe, supportive learning environment. Work Schedule & Location This is a year-round, onsite position in Hershey, PA, assigned to Middle School. Hours are flexible based on student needs, up to 29 hours per week. Most hours will fall Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.; occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Behavior Support Specialists are represented by the Milton Hershey School Education Association (MHEA). This position offers a competitive salary range commensurate with experience. Qualifications Master's degree in psychology or a related field required. Minimum of two years of experience in a professional behavior management or mental health setting with adolescents. Experience supporting diverse adolescents, including students from low-income families, preferred. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and collaborate with adolescents and adults. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) tools and other systems. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Willingness to actively engage with students beyond the scope of assigned duties, as needed. High degree of integrity and professionalism; MHS staff serve as role models for students.
