A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
Responsibilities The LifeWorks School in Media, PA is actively hiring for Special Education Teacher on Special Assignment for the 2026-2027 Academic School Year. We are now offering a $10,000 Sign-On Bonus for a certified Special Education Teacher! The LifeWorks Schools are licensed specialty therapeutic day schools for students in middle and high school effected by social, emotional, or behavioral health challenges. LifeWorks comprehensive educational curriculum is individualized and designed to actively engage each student throughout the day to achieve positive, pro-social behavioral and educational outcomes. Our unique balance of academic rigor and a continuum of evidence based educational/therapeutic supports make LifeWorks the regional provider of choice. The teacher on special assignment case manages and supports the delivery of specialized instructional and behavioral services to students while directly working with the building principal in the coordination of any coverage needs for school. This role assists teachers, counselors, behavior interventionists and administrators in implementing Individualized Education Plans, ensuring students receive appropriate accommodations and supports. The teacher on special assignment helps create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment by providing direct student assistance, monitoring progress, and maintaining accurate documentation. They will also provide direct support to staff through observations, instructional coaching and individual supervision.

Bachelor s level degree in Special Education required. Master's preferred. 3-5 years of special education teaching experience required. Pennsylvania certification in Special Education required. Pennsylvania Principal/Admin cert preferred. Prior experience working with students with behavioral health challenges within a school setting preferred.
