A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
I02520 Work Schedule The proposed course schedule will require face to face on campus teaching of students throughout the day between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM. The position also requires travel to supervise field students or student teaching at the field placement site. Minimum Qualifications Three years successful teaching in public schools. Masters degree in special education or related field. Commitment to the education of diverse populations. Successful performance in an interview including a teaching demonstration. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in Higher Education, Experienced supervising field and student teachers.
