Job Description

Position Summary Nyman Associates is seeking a knowledgeable and student-centered Braille Instructor to support students with visual impairments within Pennsylvania school districts. The Braille Instructor will provide direct instructional support to students who are blind or visually impaired in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations, and district guidelines. The successful candidate will collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to support student access to educational materials, literacy development, independence, and academic success. Essential Responsibilities Provide direct Braille instruction to students with visual impairments in individual and/or small group settings. Support student development in Braille literacy, tactile discrimination, reading fluency, writing skills, and use of Braille educational materials. Assist students in accessing classroom instruction, assignments, textbooks, assessments, and educational resources in accessible formats. Collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), general education teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to support student educational goals and accommodations. Prepare, adapt, and organize Braille instructional materials and classroom resources as needed. Support students in the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment related to Braille and visual access. Reinforce student independence, self-advocacy, organizational skills, and participation within the educational environment. Maintain accurate service documentation, progress monitoring records, and communication logs in accordance with district and IEP requirements. Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional collaboration activities as requested. Support implementation of accommodations and modifications related to visual impairments and educational access. Qualifications High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. Certification or training in Braille transcription and instruction required. Knowledge of Unified English Braille (UEB) preferred. Previous experience working with students with visual impairments in educational settings preferred. Familiarity with
IDEA, IEP
processes, and school-based special education services preferred. Experience with assistive technology and adaptive educational supports preferred. Strong communication, organizational, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Physical Requirements Ability to travel between school locations, if required. Ability to prepare and manage instructional materials and adaptive equipment.
