Job Description

Category Schools - Visually Impaired Teacher Job Type Contract Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students with visual impairments near Washington, PA. This role focuses on delivering specialized instruction and services as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), with an important emphasis on Orientation and Mobility services. Situated just outside Pittsburgh, this position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on students' educational journeys.
Qualifications and Experience:
Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) required Background or training in Orientation and Mobility services preferred Experience working in school settings with visually impaired students Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and support staff Adaptability to serve various caseloads; flexibility as more details become available Commitment to fostering independence and accessibility for students
Responsibilities:
Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, tailored to their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Deliver Orientation and Mobility instruction, supporting safe, confident movement in school and daily life Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialized staff to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented Assess student needs, track progress, and participate in IEP meetings Develop accessible instructional materials and recommend adaptive technology as needed Offer guidance and support to staff and families about visual impairments and mobility techniques
