Purpose of Position:
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Student & Staff Support, the Teacher Leader

- TEP strengthens consistent, equitable, and legally aligned school social work practice and related districtwide student support systems through professional learning, consultation, facilitation, systems coordination and implementation support. The Teacher Leader
- Social Work
- TEP strengthens equitable and consistent school social work practice; supports MTSS, special education, and responsive intervention; protects educational access for students experiencing homelessness, foster care, and other transitions; strengthens attendance, basic-needs, and interagency systems; and supports mental health, safety, child protection, and critical response practices.
This position will have a high degree of integrity, sustain a culture of continuous improvement, and be committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment while having a growth mindset to a multi-faceted operation while having a focus on creating a positive work culture.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This is a non-supervisory position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Program and practice consultation and implementation support (30%) Provide consultation, guidance, resources, and implementation support across assigned workstreams Monitor changes in law and partner with Legal Services to translate legal requirements, research, professional standards, and district procedures into practical guidance Promote consistent, equitable implementation aligned with an MTSS and school social work practice Monitor implementation, identify emerging needs and barriers, and present recommendations to leaders Support social workers in navigating established processes and elevating complex decisions to leaders B. Professional learning and staff capacity building (25%) Design, evaluate, and facilitate professional learning and onboarding Develop aligned tools and resources for school social workers and other staff Provide targeted learning and implementation support Build staff capacity to apply culturally responsive, evidence-based practices consistently Gather data and feedback to evaluate and improve professional learning systems C. Data-informed systems improvement (20%) Support staff in accessing, understanding, and using data Examine disaggregated data to identify trends, disparities, implementation gaps, and support needs Help teams use data to plan, monitor, evaluate, and adjust student supports Strengthen the accuracy and consistency of documentation, coding, tracking, and required reporting Use data to recommend improvements to practices, resources, partnerships, and systems D. Complex support and cross-system coordination (20%) Facilitate collaborative problem-solving across agencies and systems in complex situations Model effective practice and support meeting preparation, documentation, and follow-through Consult with school and district staff, students, and families on educational access and legal protection Strengthen cross-system coordination among families, schools, agencies, and community partners Support staff in navigating cross-systems communication, referral, documentation, and follow-up Use learning from complex situations to strengthen systems and address similar barriers earlier E. Other duties as assigned (5%) Perform other duties as assigned by executive leadership or their representatives or designees. Attend district and school functions that support MMSD's strategic framework, initiatives, and core values. Complete any and all district-required training. Perform Essential Job Functions:
Knowledge of adult learning principles, systems implementation, data utilization, and continuous improvement Knowledge of school social work standards, ethics, legal requirements, educational protections, and evidence-based practices Knowledge of frameworks and systems supporting student access, engagement, intervention, safety, and well-being Knowledge of the effects of instability, unmet basic needs, and systemic barriers on student learning Knowledge of requirements governing assigned workstreams and student educational protections Demonstrated skill in using disaggregated data to identify student needs and drive systemic improvements Demonstrated skill in facilitating collaborative problem-solving and cross-organizational coordination Demonstrated skill in translating complex requirements into clear guidance, tools, and operational processes Skill in consultation, facilitation, professional learning, and implementation support Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain strict confidentiality, and respect professional decision-making boundaries. Ability to manage multiple workstreams, competing priorities, timelines, and implementation needs Ability to build trust and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders Ability to build staff capacity and elevate systemic needs through appropriate leadership channels Ability to apply equitable, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based practices Ability to establish relationships at all levels of the organization Ability to follow principles and practices that promote and advance anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in school social work Experience successfully providing school social work services in diverse K-12 settings Experience facilitating professional learning, consultation, collaborative problem-solving, and systems implementation
License or Certification Requirements:
Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction School Social Worker license (7050). The incumbent must have a current license or obtain a license within a timeframe determined by the District.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may involve walking, sitting, stooping or reaching. Manual dexterity is necessary for completing general tasks while operating office equipment. This position may require being stationary for extended periods of time. Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.
Working Conditions:
Work may require travel to different locations within the district and to off-site meetings. Position may require working evenings, nights, and some weekends. Certain positions within the District may allow hybrid work flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit.
