The STEM & Self Advocacy Program Leader plays a vital role in helping our Pals grow in both academic/life skills and personal empowerment. This role focuses on STEM-based learning (science, technology, engineering, and math) as well as building strong self-advocacy, communication, and decision-making skills. Key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Prepare engaging, hands-on STEM and self-advocacy lesson plans for each day Teach individuals and groups within and outside the classroom setting Incorporate real-life STEM applications (math in daily living, technology use, problem-solving activities, basic science exploration) Teach and reinforce self-advocacy skills such as: expressing needs and preferences appropriately making choices independently understanding personal rights and boundaries communicating concerns respectfully Adapt teaching methods to meet individual needs, using repetition and scaffolding as needed until skills are mastered Use assistive tools, technology, visual supports, and hands-on materials to enhance learning and engagement Collaborate with the Program Director, other program leaders, and volunteers to create a structured and supportive learning environment Provide input, monitor, and maintain records of student progress on IPP goals monthly Support behavior regulation and positive communication strategies aligned with self-advocacy goals Continue ongoing training and education related to special education, autism, disability-related integration strategies, behavior management, and STEM instruction (training provided by Possibility Place when available) Supervise interns and volunteers as assigned Assist with weekly setup, teardown, and daily cleanup Maintain professionalism with Pals, staff, volunteers, and families Abide by all Employee/Volunteer Policies and Procedures Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a related field. Other Skills and Requirements Exceptional organization, time management, and communication skills Experience with platforms such as Microsoft Office products is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to prioritize workload and work independently Possess a positive attitude Ability to respectfully engage with a diverse population Schedule Typical hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm School year is August through May Some paid holidays, breaks, and inclement weather days Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
