Job Description

Category Schools - Visually Impaired Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact supporting students with visual impairments by providing expert guidance and specialized instruction across a diverse K-12+ caseload. This contract opportunity spans the full academic year and offers flexibility in work schedule, as both full-time and part-time options may be considered. The position is itinerant, with manageable travel between geographically assigned schools, dedicated to reducing commute time. Virtual candidates with a proven background—minimum five years as a Virtual TVI—will also be considered.
Key Qualifications:
Valid DOE Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) certification Demonstrated expertise in Braille instruction Skilled in utilizing Assistive Technology (bonus for Federal Quota accessibility experience) Comfortable with both general education and special education classroom settings Proficient in IEP participation and documentation, ideally using the TN Pulse platform Chromebook experience highly desired Completion of fingerprinting and time-sensitive credentialing requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver itinerant instructional support and direct teaching across assigned elementary, middle, and high school caseload Develop and adapt materials, utilizing accessible formats and Assistive Technology tools Collaborate with general education, special education staff, and participate in IEP meetings for each student Support student independence and academic achievement, customizing approaches based on individual needs Travel between schools with a schedule built to minimize commuting Being a part of this opportunity means helping a district bridge critical gaps for students awaiting specialized support.
