  • April 16, 2026 Dyslexia Teacher The position of a Dyslexia Teacher will be available at East Central ISD for the 2026-2027 school year.
All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:00 pm., April 26, 2026, or until the position is filled.
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the area of reading to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the needs of dyslexic students assigned. Participate in extensive training in the identification and instruction of students with dyslexia. Have a thorough knowledge of diagnostic instruments in the area of reading. Assess students for dyslexia. Instruct and monitor students with dyslexia. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. Attend district dyslexia meetings. Provide training in characteristics of students with reading problems. Serve as a literacy resource for Kinder through 3rd Grade. Model quality reading instruction for campus teachers. Coach teachers in instruction and assessment strategies. Serve on the campus Dyslexia and Section 504 Committee. Other duties as assigned.
NOTE:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certificate:
Bachelor's Degree Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements Bilingual certificate preferred Reading certificate preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Three or more years teaching reading East Central experience preferred
EQUIPMENT USED
Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress and frequent interruptions. Protracted and irregular hours of work. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities: control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
