PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Educational Diagnostician is responsible for conducting comprehensive evaluations to assess students' learning and behavioral needs and determine eligibility for special education services. The diagnostician collaborates with educators, parents, and other stakeholders to develop and implement data-driven Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that support student achievement and functional performance in accordance with state and federal regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Master's degree Valid Texas certification as an Educational Diagnostician. Valid Texas teaching certificate.
Experience:
Minimum of three years teaching experience in public education (preferred) Experience with special education procedures and compliance expectations Familiarity with TEA disability eligibility criteria and best practices in assessment.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of learning theories, cognitive development, and psychoeducational assessments Strong understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and Texas Education Code provisions Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams Strong organizational and time management skills Proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools, eSped, and related technology platforms
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assessment & Evaluation Conduct full and individual evaluations using formal and informal tools to assess academic, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Select and administer assessments appropriate for the referral concern(s) and student characteristics. Interpret evaluation data to determine eligibility for special education services under IDEA. Prepare written evaluation reports that clearly explain findings and recommendations. Maintain compliance with state and federal timelines for evaluations and reevaluations. IEP Development & ARD Support Participate in ARD meetings, presenting evaluation results and providing guidance on eligibility, programming, accommodations, and services. Collaborate with ARD committees to develop measurable, appropriate IEP goals and objectives based on student data. Ensure educational need is clearly documented and aligned to TEA eligibility criteria. Collaboration & Consultation Provide consultative support to general and special education teachers in instructional planning and progress monitoring. Serve as a resource to campus staff and families regarding learning disabilities, accommodations, and instructional strategies. Assist with Response to Intervention (RtI) and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes. Foster effective communication with students, parents, campus personnel, and outside agencies. Documentation & Compliance Ensure documentation of evaluation timelines, consents, eligibility criteria, and recommendations is thorough and timely. Maintain accurate records and adhere to local, state, and federal documentation standards. Stay current on changes in state eligibility criteria, evaluation practices, and district policies. Use eSped or district-approved platforms to manage special education paperwork. Professional Responsibilities Engage in professional development activities to improve and maintain evaluation skills. Follow ethical and legal practices in all aspects of educational diagnostics. Adhere to district procedures for safeguarding confidential information. Perform other duties as assigned.
