Primary Purpose:
To instruct students in need of literacy intervention as determined by campus administration and teachers, priority given to K-2 students; Provide support for teachers related to effective literacy strategies; Conduct student assessments in order to diagnose reading difficulties and better target instruction.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university A minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience Master's degree with Reading Specialist certification preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Improve the math skills of assigned students. Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and maintain ongoing documentation of student progress. Assess students formally and informally for the purpose of planning instructional activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations, and goals. Promptly handle paperwork and reports related to literacy assessments. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to design/support accommodations for regular curricula as needed. Collaborate with teachers regarding effective strategies for students and others needing Tier 2/3 intervention. Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting the teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Attend after-hours meetings occasionally for purposes of parent education and/or building relationships with parents and teachers. Seek out professional learning and resources to ensure necessary skills and proficiencies to support students effectively. Maintain a professional and positive relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Report incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
