A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

- Multiple opportunities may be available based on district needs
- Caseload and placement will be determined based on student needs, certifications, and experience
- Work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and school staff to support students with visual impairments Qualifications
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Texas Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) Supplemental Certificate, EC-12
- Appropriate base Texas teaching certificate held in conjunction with the TVI supplemental certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Previous experience working with students who are visually impaired is preferred, but not required
