Immediately Job Description Under the supervision of the principal, the Reading Specialist plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional literacy plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instruct students with an intense focus on literacy according to the appropriate curriculum, including assessment and review processes. Plan, develop, write, and implement lesson plans that include plans for students in the area of literacy in keeping with school district and state education requirements, keeping records of student achievement, and tracking their abilities. Duties include helping students read fluently, comprehend what they're reading, and train them in phonetics, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary understanding. Work in collaboration with staff and other teachers to create and implement literacy instructional plans for students who are reading below grade level. Comply with and enforce school rules and school board policies and procedures. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as appropriate. Perform other school duties and assignments as appointed. Create a classroom environment that provides student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students including students with disabilities Prepare, write, and implement lesson plans that provide targeted instruction that meets the needs of each student Administer quarterly and ongoing assessments to determine students' progress and appropriate next steps in instruction Develop a system to document and maintain data on student progressEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement. Knowledge of the Science of Reading and Virginia Literacy Act Experience in the use and analysis of variety of literacy assessment tools 10 month contract (200 days)Position Type:
