AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under the direct supervision of the building principal in providing case management leadership and technical assistance to special education teachers, administrators, students and families, at a specific assigned secondary school(s). Provides on site support and technical assistance, under the direction of the building principal or designee, to special education roster teachers/case managers and administrators. Articulates how special education policies/procedures apply to eligibility, development and implementation of the IEP, data collection (to include progress monitoring and/or IEP progress reporting) and the application of specially designed instruction in the school setting. Works collaboratively with special education coordinators and administrators to support special education teacher professional growth and skill development. Works collaboratively with school administrator(s) assigned to Special Education in support of special and general education teachers and students with disabilities. Organizes and facilitates regularly scheduled individual roster teacher/case manager meetings to review student caseloads, assess student progress and identify areas of concern requiring further action. May serve as a Division Representative (LEA) in IEP related meetings, as appropriate, but does not replace the administrator who may be needed in such meetings. Attends all special education Program Advisor training activities, CLT meetings with the special education teachers from assigned school(s) and quarterly Division wide IL meetings. Participates in the planning of special education CLT training activities that promote effective case management practices and supports compliance with policies and procedures. Provides technical and practical assistance with preparation for IEP related meetings, which may include meeting facilitation, conflict resolution and creative problem solving within the IEP process, as well as follow up tasks after meetings. Serves as liaison with the special education department, as well as with other departments and work groups. Maintains a high level of expertise concerning effective instructional and management practices for all specialized programs located in assigned school(s). Demonstrates professional and ethical behaviors across all school or division settings/activities; clearly demonstrates effective leadership practices.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Teaching license with a special education endorsement. Masters degree in education preferred. At least three years of current documented successful teaching experience as a special education teacher. Clear understanding of federal and state regulations under IDEA. Skilled in application of VDOE and HCS policies and procedures to individual student disability situations and issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Skilled in working with various groups of people, i.e., instructional staff, school administrators, parent/families, as well as students with disabilities. Skilled in working with adult learners. Strong meeting and project facilitation skills. Strong conflict resolution and creative problem solving skills. Excellent teaming and collaboration skills. Demonstrates initiative and proven ability to complete projects on time. Organized and detail oriented. Technologically proficient.
