Position Summary The Part-Time Credit Recovery Lab Teacher is responsible for supervising and supporting high school students (grades 9-12) participating in a structured credit recovery program. The teacher provides academic assistance in core subject areas including mathematics, language arts, and science while maintaining a structured, disciplined learning environment consistent with a military-style program model. This role requires reliability, strong classroom supervision skills, proficiency with computer-based learning platforms, and the ability to build positive relationships with students while reinforcing accountability and academic progress. Key Responsibilities Student Supervision and Classroom Management Supervise students in the credit recovery lab to ensure a safe, structured, and productive learning environment. Maintain discipline and uphold program expectations consistent with the program's structured, military-style environment. Monitor student behavior and reinforce program standards, promoting respect, responsibility, and accountability. Provide active supervision to ensure students remain engaged and on task during assigned coursework. Academic Support Provide instructional support and tutoring in core academic subjects including mathematics, language arts, and science. Assist students with navigating online or computer-based credit recovery curriculum. Monitor student progress through assigned coursework and provide guidance to support completion. Encourage academic persistence and help students develop effective study habits and problem-solving skills. Student Engagement and Support Develop positive, supportive relationships with students that encourage motivation, confidence, and success. Provide encouragement and constructive feedback to support academic improvement. Identify students who may need additional support and communicate concerns to program leadership or appropriate staff. Program Operations Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and behavior during lab sessions. Ensure proper use and care of computers and lab equipment. Follow all program policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Communicate effectively with program staff regarding student performance or behavioral concerns. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred; Associate degree or relevant experience in education, youth development, or tutoring may be considered. Experience working with high school-aged youth (grades 9-12). Basic knowledge of mathematics, language arts, and science sufficient to support student learning. Proficiency with computers and online learning platforms. Ability to maintain structure and enforce expectations in a disciplined environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. FBI fingerprint, background check and drug testing is required as this is a temporary position at a state agency. Preferred Qualifications Prior teaching, tutoring, or classroom support experience. Experience working in alternative education, credit recovery, or youth development programs. Experience working with at-risk youth or within structured youth programs. Additional Expectations Demonstrate reliability and punctuality. Maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries with students. Support the program's mission of helping students achieve academic success, personal responsibility, and future readiness. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds regularly. Ability to walk throughout campus, including walking up and down stairs. Ability to stand, bend, and move for extended periods while performing cleaning duties. Required Qualifications Ability to work independently and follow assigned schedules and tasks. Basic knowledge of cleaning practices and sanitation procedures. Strong reliability and attention to detail. Ability to work flexible hours as required by program needs. Work Environment Requirements Ability to work in a school and structured program environment serving youth ages 16-18. Must maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries when working around cadets. Employment Requirements Must successfully pass FBI fingerprinting and background check. Must successfully complete drug screening as required by program policy. Must comply with all facility safety policies and operational procedures.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.
