A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

The Special Educator will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. Position Overview:
As a Special Educator at Strides Therapy & Educational Services, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational journey of students with diverse learning needs. Collaborating closely with a team of fellow Special Educators, your primary responsibility will be to provide tailored support to enhance students' communication and language development within educational settings across Alaska.
Individualized Instruction:
Develop and implement customized instructional plans to meet the unique needs of each student, focusing on communication and language skills.
Collaborative Teamwork:
Work collaboratively with other Special Educators (Exceptional Student Educators) and educational professionals to ensure a cohesive support system for students.
Progress Monitoring:
Regularly assess students' progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed to promote growth and achievement.
Communication:
Maintain open and effective communication with students, families, and school staff to facilitate student success and address any concerns or challenges.
Professional Development:
Stay current with best practices and research in special education to enhance your skills and knowledge continuously.
Additional Details:
In-Person Role Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field. Current Virginia Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement appropriate to the assigned grade level and instructional setting, or eligibility to obtain Virginia licensure. Knowledge of
IDEA, IEP
development, specially designed instruction, and behavior management strategies. Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families.
Expected Hours per week:
7.5 hours a day; 37.5
