Job Description

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Step into a fulfilling contract role as an Elementary Special Education Teacher, supporting students in a dedicated K-5 classroom designed for learners with autism and significant behavioral needs. This opportunity is based near Colchester, VT and covers a leave of absence from October through December. In this self-contained setting, you'll teach a small group of five students, each supported by their own paraprofessional, ensuring personalized attention and the chance to make a genuine impact every day. With a pay range of $85 to $90 for travel, this assignment rewards your expertise and commitment.
Qualifications & Experience:
Current Special Education Teacher certification (or eligibility) in the state Prior experience working with elementary students, especially those with autism and behavioral challenges Strong knowledge of K-5 curriculum, IEP development, and data-driven instructional methods Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals, support staff, and families Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills Adaptability and patience in managing a dynamic classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for all students in the classroom Deliver engaging, evidence-based lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles and behavioral needs Supervise, guide, and collaborate with five paraprofessionals, ensuring cohesive support for every student Apply behavioral management strategies within a positive, structured environment Maintain ongoing communication with families and related service providers Track progress, collect data, and adjust instructional approaches as needed This is a rewarding opportunity to be at the heart of meaningful progress for students and their families.
