The Role Responsibilities The Cross Categorical Special Education Teacher at the middle school level provides individualized instruction and support to students with a range of disabilities, addressing academic, functional, social-emotional, and life skills. This role includes developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs; modifying and adapting curriculum to meet diverse learning needs; supervising and supporting paraprofessional staff; and collaborating with families and multidisciplinary team members. The teacher also plays a key role in preparing students for post-secondary transitions, including employment, independent living, post-secondary education or training, and community involvement. Role Requirements As an ideal candidate, you will hold a bachelor's degree in special education or related field and possess strong knowledge of the law as it applies to Special Education; Best practices for teaching students with disabilities; Understanding of Special Education evaluations; Knowledge of IEP paperwork and forms; Understanding of the various Special Education settings and differences between grade levels; Knowledge of the Wisconsin Education Standards, curriculum, and pedagogy. Prior training and/or certification in Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, and Wisconsin Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is considered beneficial.
