SUMMARY:
Plans and implements programming for diverse learners including highly-able and students at-risk of not achieving at their learning level in the Sun Prairie Area School District in consultation with teachers, administrators, parents, and students. The primary purpose of the Learning Support/Gifted and Talented (G&T) Resource Teacher is to ensure that students receive instruction based on their individual learning styles, needs and strengths in collaboration with other resource personnel. The Learning Support/G&T Resource teacher role will vary from building to building and from year to year based on site determined needs and goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Serves as a resource to students, staff, teachers, and administration, K-12, in meeting the varied learning needs of students. Facilitates the identification process, in collaboration with other staff, of both highly-able learners as well as students at-risk of not achieving at their learning level. Works with the building principal and staff to plan and develop programming based on the developmental needs of students and individual building goals. Supports teachers as they implement learning support services in their classroom. Supports the integration of higher level thinking skills into the curriculum through a variety of means including team teaching. Monitors differentiated education plans for special needs of identified students. Establishes mentorships by coordinating efforts between school, community and business. Collaborates to determine necessary testing and review of achievement data for referred students when additional information is needed. Supports enrichment and other learning support efforts as determined by student needs, building, and/or district initiatives. Maintains an awareness of recent educational research pertaining to highly-able and at-risk learners. Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops and implements individual education plans and 504 plans. Collaborates with teachers to develop and implement differentiated curriculum for individual needs of students. Provides qualitative and quantitative feedback to students and parents, and participates in parent/teacher conferences, and open houses. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective and safe learning environment. Informs parents and teachers of extended programming available to students. Communicates with parents and teachers regarding performance and programming of identified students. Assist in identifying staff development opportunities related to student learning needs. Maintains accurate records of service being provided to identified students. Continues professional growth.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in gifted and talented, reading and/or at-risk education. Prefer classroom teaching experience and strong reading background.
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, parents, administrators, School Board and community.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on district goals and the needs and abilities of students assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in verbal and written communication.
TEMPERAMENTS
Ability to direct others, deal with people, and influence people in their opinions, attitudes, and judgments. Ability to perform a variety of duties with frequent change in task.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES
Possess and maintain or be eligible to obtain a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teaching license.
Required:
Reading license, Alternative Education license or DPI Certification for Gifted and Talented educator at the level that they would be instructing. Valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
