JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE

General Aide

REPORTS TO

Teacher

JOB GOAL

To assist the teacher in achieving identified instructional objectives and to help students take full advantage of the Instructional program and resource materials

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associates Degree, 48 College Semester Hours, or WorkKeys Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred Knowledge and understanding of academic and behavioral strategies and techniques to assist students in learning Physically able to participate in restraint training and participate in restraint of a student, if needed Ability to use current technology Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups Ability to work as a member of a team Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, and goals 2. Under the supervision of a certified teacher, performs tasks related to classroom instruction 3. Works with student(s) individually or in small groups to maintain behavioral control and / or to reinforce learning initially introduced by the teacher 4. Works with small groups of students to reinforce learning initially introduced by the teacher 5. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and corrective instruction directed by the teacher 6. Assists individual students who need special attention and/or assistance 7. Assists the teacher in preparing instructional materials for classroom use 8. Assists with routine classroom clerical duties 9. Assists in the supervision of students who participate in special class activities 10.Supervises students who may need to leave the classroom setting to complete independent work or to navigate around the school 11.Helps with extra duties related to the supervision of students (lunch periods, bus duties, assemblies, field trips, etc.) 12.Maintains confidentiality of all school related business 13.Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws 14.Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s) This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position.
