What they do
A Substitute Teacher teaches or supervises classes for teachers who are away on leave or sick. May substitute for teachers at several different schools or school districts. May substitute for one day or for a longer term absence; may follow lesson plans developed by the regular teacher, or work with teacher who will be out to create new lesson plans and assignments.

Recruitment for this pool will begin in September 2026. Applications submitted before then will remain on file and be reviewed once hiring begins.
PLEASE NOTE
New substitutes must complete the hiring process, including attending an interview and orientation before they are elgible to accept substitute assignments.Licensed Substitutes:
Replace a regular classroom teacher in the event of an absence. They m ust hold a valid Colorado Teaching License or Substitute Authorization issued from the Colorado Department of Education. Prior experience working with students in a classroom setting is preferred.Salary:
$145-$165/day. See the website for a breakdown of the pay tiers .- Substitutes for Mountain Schools will be compensated for their mileage at 83.
Hours/day:
Half day (up to 4 hours/day) or full day (more than 4 hours per day) Work calendar days: Varied Benefits include: PERA retirementClassified Substitutes:
