Substitute teachers will be paid at a rate established by the Board of Governors (currently $120.00 per day for 1 year license and $155.00 per day for 3 year license). Benefits for Employees•employees contracted for.75 FTE per week or more. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance options. University Schools pays 100% of premium for: Short Term and Long Term Disability policies; Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance; and a $25,000 Life Insurance policy. For enrollment in our high deductible medical plan, University Schools will donate $1000 for a qualifying HSA account. We comply with all State Law regarding Accrued Paid Sick Leave (Colorado Senate Bill 20-205) in combination with additional unrestricted PTO Leave. Retirement in the Public Employees Retirement Association (P.E.R.A.). After a 108 year association with the University of Northern Colorado, University Schools opened as a public charter school, at its current location, in the fall of 2002. "Who We Are" for more information Summary/Objective To enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of a teacher by providing assistance and supervision for children when the classroom teacher is unable to teach. Assignment may be at any level (Elementary, Middle or High School) for a varying length of time and may include other duties as needed. The work takes a versatile person to adapt to one grade level or subject one day to another. University Schools considers Substitute Teachers very important to our school and are recognized as an essential part of the education process. Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Requirements Dress professionally, setting a good example for the students. Review the classroom teacher's daily schedule, lesson plan book, seating charts, textbooks, and other materials. Maintain, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned. Teach the lessons outlined and described by the absent teacher. Consult with the level principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified by the absent teacher. If playground or other duties are assigned to the regular teacher, the substitute teacher is expected to fulfill that responsibility. Check the attendance procedures of your assigned classroom. Become familiar with the building, especially the fire escape routes. Be available to cover a class or assist as needed if there is a planning period. Also, please be aware that substitute teaching assignments may change if other needs arise in the building. All substitute teachers should refrain from expressing personal opinions and reactions about various subjects (i.e., religion, politics, etc.). When serving on an assignment, the substitute must remember that substituting is a position of public trust. Confidential information concerning individual students must not be discussed. Remain at school until the school day has ended, regardless of whether there is a class during the last period. Ask an administrator where assistance is needed. Substitute teacher will refrain from using personal cell phones or tablets during classroom hours. No personal work of any kind will be permitted while on duty. Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class as assigned. If assigned, grades all papers done that day and records the results on the graded papers, or by means instructed by the school administration and/or teacher. Records absences in the manner instructed. Upon completion of the assignment, the substitute teacher is required to return keys and other materials, complete the substitute time sheet and request signature from the appropriate personnel. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. The ability to report to the school office following the scheduled time of substitution. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals. Education and Related Work Experience Must hold and maintain a current 3 or 5 year substitute authorization or a professional teacher's license from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE).Licenses, Registrations or Certifications Certification/License:
