General Statement:
The PPT Substitute Teacher will be assigned to a school for the academic year, working a set schedule of one to three days per week, depending on the needs of the school. The PPT Substitute Teacher is responsible for the continuation of all learning activities in the classroom while the teacher participates in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings. The PPT Substitute Teacher may cover a number of classrooms throughout the day. Substitute Teachers are expect to understand human growth and development and be knowledgeable about what is to be taught and demonstrate facility in the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics, or whatever subject area they are assigned. They are expected to effectively communicate with students and establish a positive climate in the classroom in the absence of the regular classroom teacher, and maintain classroom discipline. They are also expected to communicate with the classroom teacher they are replacing, informing them of their progress in the assigned lessons and other issues that occurred in the classroom in the teacher's absence. The PPT Substitute Teacher may pick up daily substitute jobs in the district on days they are not serving as the PPT Substitute Teacher. See job description attached at the top of the posting for:
Major Responsibilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Qualifications Note:
Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.
