A Substitute Teacher teaches or supervises classes for teachers who are away on leave or sick. May substitute for teachers at several different schools or school districts. May substitute for one day or for a longer term absence; may follow lesson plans developed by the regular teacher, or work with teacher who will be out to create new lesson plans and assignments.
We are seeking a versatile, energetic, and reliable Substitute / Part-Time Teacher to join our team at Mama Bear Childcare. In this essential role, you will provide critical support across classrooms, primarily covering staff meal breaks and stepping in for planned lead teacher absences. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, easily adapts to different age groups (infants through preschool), and is committed to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and engaging atmosphere wherever they are needed.
Schedule & Hours Core Daily Schedule:
Monday through Friday, typically between 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM to cover staff breaks.
Flexible Coverage:
Opportunity for additional hours based on advance notice for planned teacher absences, vacation, or center needs.
Operating Hours:
Center operates Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM .
Smoothly transition into various classrooms to provide break coverage, seamlessly stepping into active daily routines without interrupting classroom flow.
Classroom Management & Supervision:
Maintain active supervision, physical proximity, and a supportive, structured environment across infant, toddler, and preschool spaces.
Routine & Caregiver Duties:
Assist with daily classroom routines, including meal service, post-meal sanitization, rest time, outdoor play, and following proper hygiene/diapering protocols.
Daily Tracking & Communication:
Utilize childcare management software (such as Procare) to accurately log activities, meals, and care steps during shift transitions.
Safety Protocols:
Maintain a clean, organized space; strictly enforce health and safety protocols, state licensing rules, and First Aid/CPR procedures.
Collaborative Partnership:
Work flexibly and warmly alongside lead teachers and administrative staff to ensure seamless center operations.
Experience & Qualifications Early Childhood Experience:
Prior experience working with young children (infants through preschool) in a licensed childcare center or structured early childhood environment.
Adaptability & Dependability:
High degree of flexibility to adapt to changing daily needs, varied age groups, and scheduling needs with advance notice.
Technical Proficiency:
Comfort using digital tools and mobile apps for daily logging and communication.
Safety Certifications:
Valid certification in pediatric First Aid and CPR is required.
Strong Communication:
