Summary

Responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate program for students that complies with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. Nurtures children, provides meals, activities, and instruction, and ensures students are clean and kept safe in the absence of the regular afterschool staff.

The Barren Beyond the Bell (BBB) Substitute Lead Teacher serves afterschool programs throughout Barren County schools on an "as needed" basis

Primary Responsibilities

Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the assigned classroom.

Assists with afterschool programming lessons outlined and described in a plan prepared by the absent teacher.

Assumes responsibility for overseeing children's behavior in clas, snack, and recess.

Reports in writing with notes left for the absent teacher, the assignments made and comments regarding student behavior.

Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular assistants are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

Maintains regular attendance and works as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Certification is mandatory for this role.

Two years of experience working as a Child Care Teacher / Daycare Teacher in a Childcare Facility, preschool, or similar role in an Educational Institute.

Strong organizational skills.

Excellent communication skills for speaking with young children.

Excellent listening skills.

Familiar with child development processes and techniques.

Exhibit patience and care for all students and staff.

Good problem-solving skills.

Basic knowledge of first aid is mandatory.

Proven experience as a Child Care / Daycare.

Excellent knowledge of child development and up-to-date education methods.

Methodical and creative.

Patience, flexibility, and love for children.

Certificate in first aid and CPR.

Skills

Requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and a willingness and ability to travel between BBB locations. Computer skills and experience in Google Suite. Strong project management and administrative and organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented and enjoy working in a diverse environment.

Physical and Mental Requirements

High energy, motivation, confidence, and creativity; excellent attention to detail and accuracy in reports; ability to work for prolonged periods at high levels of activity, standing up and bending over; managing multiple tasks with varying deadlines; ability to exchange clearly and concisely, ideas and facts, both verbal and written.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

This position may involve lifting (up to 25 lbs), bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. Must be able to demonstrate and describe activities to youth. This position will work indoors and outdoors.
