Long-Term Substitute 7th/8th Grade English Language Arts Teacher•Lincoln Middle
POSITION OVERVIEW
Portland Public Schools seeks long-term substitute teacher for 7th & 8th grade English Language Arts classes at Lincoln Middle School during the fall of the 2026, starting mid-September. The successful candidate will be adept at providing an atmosphere and an environment conducive to the academic, social and emotional development of individuals that ensure equitable access to learning opportunities for all students. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and adjusting curricular and instructional materials to monitor student progress and meet the needs of a range of learners. Communicating and interacting with students, parents, colleagues and community members are essential in this role. •This position is expected to be available from mid-September 2026 to January 2027.•
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of PPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, PPS policies, and effective instructional practices
Understanding of the teaching/learning process
Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education
Ability to infuse technology into curriculum
Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community
Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university
Additional combinations of applicable education, training, and experience are welcome

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Maine State Teaching Certificate with one of the following endorsements (more info):
Elementary 020 (K-8)
English 100 (5-8)
Maine State CHRC authorization (more info) •if you already have an active teacher certification, you do not need a separate CHRC as this clearance is tied to your teacher certification
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

Temporary (approx. dates of coverage = September 2026 to January 2027)
Wage:
$36.43 per hour (25-26 rate for LTS was $36.43 per hour so it will be slightly higher; teacher certification is required for this rate)
