As an Aspiring Certified Teacher, you will join CPA as an employee, serve in a consistent long-term substitute assignment under an approved State of Michigan permit, and build the experience and credentials needed for a long-term career in education. Openings may be available in elementary classrooms and in middle or high school English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Placement is based on district need, your academic background or qualifying assessment, grade-level fit, and permit approval. This is a career-entry pathway for people who have already chosen teaching as their profession. It is not a day-to-day substitute pool or an exploratory program. Who we're looking for: You do not need to hold a Michigan teacher certificate when you apply. You do need to meet the requirements for the specific assignment and commit to completing certification on the timeline agreed upon with CPA. Michigan permit eligibility. At least 60 semester credit hours completed with a grade of C or better from recognized colleges or universities, or an associate degree or higher. Content-area eligibility for core assignments. An academic major or minor, at least 20 semester credit hours in the assigned discipline, or a passing score on the applicable state-approved subject-area assessment. A clear certification pathway. Current enrollment or acceptance in a state-approved teacher preparation or alternative-route program, or a credible, time-bound plan to enroll by the date established with CPA. Professional readiness. A firm commitment to teaching; strong communication, organization, classroom-management, and collaboration skills; and the ability to provide transcripts, assessment results, and other required records and complete all background and employment screening. A bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant content area is preferred. Final placement is contingent upon CPA obtaining the appropriate State of Michigan permit for the specific grade-band and content-area assignment. What you will do Lead engaging instruction. Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons using CPA curriculum and approved resources, with appropriate intervention, support, and enrichment for diverse learners. Create a strong classroom culture. Establish a safe, structured, inclusive environment with clear routines, positive behavior supports, and high expectations for every student. Use evidence to help students grow. Monitor progress, provide feedback, assign grades, maintain accurate records, communicate with families, and adjust instruction based on student needs and data. Grow into certification. Collaborate with your mentor, colleagues, support staff, and school leaders; participate in professional learning; complete an Individualized Development Plan; and meet agreed certification milestones. How CPA supports your growth Permit guidance. CPA reviews your transcripts and proposed assignment, identifies the appropriate Michigan permit pathway, and submits the employer-sponsored permit application. Mentoring and development. Each Aspiring Certified Teacher is paired with a mentor and supervisor and receives planning support, feedback, coaching, professional development, and collaboration with experienced educators. Clear milestones. CPA reviews classroom performance and certification progress so expectations and next steps remain clear.
