We are entering our second decade of forming children according to a Catholic vision; and we are full of gratitude for the recent canonization of our patron, Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati. We know that our Catholic worldview is increasingly divergent from that of the common mentality, and the time has come for us to be clearer and more explicit about who we are and what we are attempting to do as a Catholic school. At FCA, we aim to be a community of learners, united by our common belonging to Christ, who is present in the Church. We seek to live an authentically Catholic culture, born from our continual conversion and adherence to Christ. We aim to invite students into the great story of salvation, and truthfully introduce them to the whole of reality. We seek to form them and assist them in locating themselves in God's great story, in order to give themselves over to Him and thereby achieve fulfillment. We have a clear sense of purpose and direction from our leadership at FCA. We are a part of the history and tradition of both St. Mary of the Lake, and St. Pius X parishes in White Bear Lake. At the beginning of the school year we create a team of amazing substitute teachers that are capable of stepping into any classroom and have the materials and lessons plans needed to accomplish the day or weeks goals with the students. Before the school year begins, we gather and train our whole team (teachers and substitutes alike) on ways that we can support each other in this important ministry.

Substitute Teacher Responsibilities:

Ability to take attendance using Sycamore for Schools. Create a classroom environment that invites peace, order, and beauty — where reflection, storytelling, and joyful work are woven into daily life while also supporting the school's behavioral expectations for students in the classroom. Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units and projects, in collaboration with the fulltime teacher. Assign various assessments for students, including tests, quizzes, essays and projects. Work with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention. Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers and supervisors. Communicate with classroom teacher anythey they may want to know (positive & negative). Recognize and protect the students natural religious sense, offering gentle opportunities for silence, wonder, and a growing awareness of God's love and presence. Foster spiritual development through rich, hands-on experiences that speak to the heart — allowing students to encounter sacred stories and respond in their own authentic ways. Differentiate instruction in such a way that students receive intellectual nourishment according to their capacities and level of development.
