BUILDING AIDE REPORTS TO

BUILDING PRINCIPAL AND/OR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Position Summary The Building Aide provides instructional, behavioral, and supervisory support to certified staff to enhance student learning and promote a safe, orderly, and effective educational environment. Under the direction of certified staff and building administrators, the Building Aide assists with classroom instruction, supports individual and small groups of students, and helps address students' academic, social, and emotional needs. In addition to classroom support, the Building Aide supervises students in non-instructional settings, including hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during arrival and dismissal. This position reinforces school and classroom expectations, promotes positive student behavior, and supports consistent daily routines. The Building Aide also assists with classroom and building operations, maintains confidentiality, and complies with all district policies, procedures, and applicable Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements for support staff. Qualifications Minimum of 36 college credit hours from an accredited institution; additional requirements may apply based on certification pathway. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, teachers, administrators, and other staff. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Salary Range $15.61 - $19.03 per hour Salary placement is based on relevant prior experience Essential Functions Assist with the implementation of daily lessons and classroom activities. Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce instruction. Support students in developing positive social skills and cooperative interactions. Observe student performance and communicate concerns or special needs to the teacher. Provide supervision and assistance to students in classrooms and other school settings. Escort students as needed throughout the school day. Assist in maintaining student records and monitoring progress. Help organize and maintain classroom materials, student work areas, and instructional resources. Supervise students during recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other non-instructional times. Prepare, collect, and display instructional and classroom materials. Support a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment. Perform physical tasks associated with the position, including walking, standing, sitting, bending, lifting, and, when necessary, running. Terms of Employment This is a nine and one-half (9.5) month position that follows the district academic calendar. Certification Requirements Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain a Missouri Substitute Certificate issued by DESE. Missouri Substitute Certification Pathways Applicants may qualify for Missouri substitute certification through one of the following pathways: Completion of at least 36 college credit hours from an accredited institution. Successful completion of a DESE-approved 20-hour online substitute training program. Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment. Candidates who do not meet the college credit hour requirement are encouraged to pursue either the 20-hour online training program (preferred) or the ParaPro Assessment.
