Position Summary:
The ML Aide provides one-on-one assistance with linguistic, academic, socio-cultural, and socio-emotional needs of students and may lead small group activities. The ML Aide supports individual and/or small groups of students under the supervision of the ML teacher in the supervision and instruction of students and assists students by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments.
Essential Functions:
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives Plans, prepares and develops various teaching aids, such as flash cards, charts and graphs as needed Proctors tests, assists with homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts Implements, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts Communicates with teachers and other district personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing ILP (Individual Learning Plan) objectives Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, assemblies, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment Promotes good study habits and student independence for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes Facilitates respect for students from diverse cultures Facilitates and encourages parental involvement Provides supplemental instruction to students under the direction of a classroom or ML teacher Assists ML teachers or classroom teachers with documenting instructional services provided Facilitates orientation of new ML students Communicate with school personnel regarding cultural and language issues Assist with the organization and implementation of events and activities for the purpose of enhancing parent involvement Participate in required in-service activities for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing work related skills Performs other related work as required The intent of this job description is to provide a representation description of the types of duties and responsibilities required for this position. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications noted below are required to enable the employee to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this position. 2 year or 4 year degree in Education preferred Experience working with school age children in a school setting Bilingual (spanish) candidate preferred
Work Environment:
Ability to work in a variety of locations throughout the building, and meet the physical demands of handling a variety of responsibilities. While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand and reach.
