Job Description

Job Title:
Substitute Teacher (Part-Time, As Needed)
Job Summary:
The Substitute Teacher provides as-needed classroom support for students in grades K-8 at SOAR Academy. This role is responsible for maintaining a structured, supportive learning environment in the absence of the lead teacher and following provided lesson plans and guidance. SOAR Academy serves students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences, so the ideal candidate is patient, adaptable, and comfortable supporting students who may be struggling readers. This position is best suited for someone who enjoys working with children, can think on their feet, and is able to step into a classroom with confidence and flexibility.
Responsibilities:
Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the classroom teacher Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment Support students with varying learning needs, including those with dyslexia Provide guidance and redirection to keep students on task Communicate any important notes or concerns to school staff at the end of the day Adapt as needed to different grade levels (K-8) and classroom settings
Hours:
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Qualifications:
Required:
Reliable and punctual, with the ability to step in on short notice when needed Strong communication and classroom management skills Patient, flexible, and comfortable working with students who may struggle academically Ability to follow direction and maintain consistency with classroom expectations Successful completion of a background check is required prior to hire Must maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with school policies Must maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and families Must follow all school safety policies and procedures
Preferred:
Experience working in a school or educational setting Experience working with students with dyslexia or learning differences Bachelor's degree (education or related field preferred) Background in teaching, tutoring, childcare, or similar roles
