Certified, Local Substitute Teacher, 2026-2027

Local Substitute Teacher (2026-2027 School Year) Local substitute teachers are individuals who hold a minimum of 48 completed college credit hours AND have been granted a Nebraska Department of Education Local Substitute License.

Full Day Pay Rate:

$173.85

Half Day Pay Rate:

$86.92 •These rates are from the 2025-2026 school year. The rates for 2026-2027 are pending board approval.

Certification Requirement:

Nebraska Department of Education (NDE)

Local Substitute Certificate:

This official permit must be secured prior to employment.

Three certified references must complete and return the electronic survey forms before your hire date. Please verify the correct email addresses for your references to ensure they receive the forms promptly.

Local Substitute Orientation:

A registration link for the orientation will be sent to your email address after your application has been successfully submitted and reviewed by Human Resources. Review the link for the Local Substitute Application Process . This includes all the steps required to become a local substitute.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Current LPS employees retiring or changing from a benefits eligible position to a Substitute Only position are subjected to PPACA or NPERS re-employment rules and will need to wait 90 or 180 days. Do not apply for this position if you hold a degree in education and hold (or recently applied for) a Nebraska Teaching Certificate. Instead, apply for the Certified Substitute Teacher application.
