We are looking for caring and motivated substitute teachers to work with our Deaf/Hard of Hearing students as they cover for teachers and aides that are absent. There are positions available in the Ogden, Salt Lake, Springville, and St. George areas. Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position: As a Substitute for the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing you will: Teach subject matter, in the absence of regular teacher, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities. Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction. Understand and use computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction. Maintain classroom organization and discipline. Establish and maintain standard of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment. Devise and utilize techniques which accurately measure students' progress Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas. Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional practices Advisory Commission. Conform to school policies, including attendance, absences and evaluations. Qualifications Minimum or "day-one" qualifications The Ideal Candidate will possess: principles, theories, and practices of education techniques and methods of teaching deaf/hard-of-hearing students learning methods of deaf/hard-of-hearing students good knowledge base of computers and classroom technology firm knowledge and skills in classroom management and discipline deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism communicate clearly and effectively maintain strict confidentiality professional teaching ethics local, state, and federal laws that pertain to education agency programs, business practices, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures About the Role Location
  • Multiple Locations:
    Ogden, SLC, Springville, and St. George. Background Check Required
  • You must successfully pass a criminal history check. Drug Test Required
  • No Schedule Code
  • AE•Employees of the State Board of Edu.
This is a career service exempt at will position.
Supplemental Information:
Some positions require considerable & strenuous physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, etc, and recurring lifting. Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. being subject to possible physical attack, etc. Risks are related to the possibility of working with students who are non-compliant, self
  • abusive, and/or aggressive.
American Sign Language (ASL) skills required for some deaf/hard-of-hearing classes. These positions are on an as needed basis only, Monday through Friday for up to 7-1/2 (seven-and-one-half) hours per day for nine (9) months during each school year. Successful completion of a criminal background check. Salary for applicant with no license is $18.00 LSL or $19.00 (ASL) an hour. Salary for applicants with a degree in education is $25.00.
