To Be Determined Job Description Saint Philip School Substitute Teacher The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence acknowledges that the Catholic School substitute teacher is vital to the educational mission of the Church. The teacher not only stimulates the acquisition of knowledge and understanding, but serves as a consistent, joyful and living witness to the teachings of Christ. Saint Philip School is looking for a creative and enthusiastic person to serve as one of our substitute teachers for the 2026 - 2027 school year. This teacher will help to fulfill the mission of our school by providing an environment rooted in Gospel values and academic excellence. This position is hired and evaluated by the Pastor, the Principal, and the Dean of Student Life. This position requires but is not limited to the following duties:
  • Supporting and upholding the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acting as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supporting and adhering to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Providing effective English Language Arts, Mathematics, Religion, Social Studies, and Science programs of instruction for any grade they are assigned to for the day
  • Providing instruction and assessment for understanding based on the classroom teachers directives
  • Communicating clear objectives for all learning activities and creating projects to enhance learning opportunities based on the classroom teachers directives
  • Using effective instructional methods/models according to professional standard practice
  • Deepening students' understanding of all content areas through reading, writing and speaking
  • Choosing all content area material for students, and preparing assignments and discussion topics based on the classroom teachers directives
  • Incorporating multi-sensory lessons into daily instruction based on the classroom teachers directives
  • Incorporating technology into daily lessons to include but not limited to Chromebooks, Clevertouch Digital Projection Technology, etc.
  • Practicing positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment
  • Developing and maintaining a classroom environment appropriate for all learners, within the limits of available resources, and consistent with current best practices in education and all content areas that promotes a love of reading and lifelong learning
  • Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintaining current and accurate records according to school policy
  • Maintaining records as required by law, Diocesan policy, and administrative guidelines, and collaborating with colleagues on student progress
