Our school embraces a project-based curriculum influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, emphasizing hands-on learning, creativity, collaboration, curiosity, and meaningful experiences. Our substitute teachers play an important role in maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment when a classroom teacher is absent. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with children, can confidently follow established classroom plans, and is comfortable adapting to the needs of students and the school community.
Responsibilities Classroom Continuity:
Follow the lesson plans, schedules, classroom routines, and guidance provided by the classroom teacher to ensure a consistent and supportive learning experience for students.
Student Engagement:
Create a warm, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment. Encourage students to participate in hands-on activities, projects, discussions, collaborative learning experiences, and behavioral management.
Classroom Management:
Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment while reinforcing established classroom expectations and school-wide practices.
Flexibility & Adaptability:
Be prepared to work with different grade levels and adapt to varying classroom environments, schedules, student needs, and learning activities.
Reggio Emilia & Project-Based Learning:
Support First Presbyterian School's approach to learning by encouraging curiosity, creativity, exploration, problem-solving, collaboration, and the "hundred languages" through which children communicate and learn.
Student Support:
Provide appropriate academic, social, and emotional support to students throughout the school day while encouraging independence and positive decision-making.
Collaboration:
Communicate effectively with classroom teachers, administration, and other staff regarding classroom activities, student needs, and any significant concerns that arise during the day.
Supervision & Safety:
Provide attentive supervision of students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, specials, and other assigned duties. Follow all school safety and emergency procedures. Skills Strong communication, organization, flexibility, and classroom management skills. Ability to follow directions while confidently responding to the needs of students and the classroom.
