To Be Determined Job Description Substitute Teacher Saint Leo the Great Catholic School Fairfax, Virginia Position Summary Saint Leo the Great Catholic School is seeking qualified, dependable, and faith-filled Substitute Teachers to provide instructional continuity and maintain a positive learning environment during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for implementing lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and supporting the academic, spiritual, and social development of students in accordance with the mission and values of Catholic education. Essential Responsibilities Instruction and Classroom Management Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular classroom teacher. Deliver instruction and facilitate learning activities for students in assigned grade levels and subject areas. Maintain a structured, respectful, and productive classroom environment. Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and expectations. Adapt to varying classroom settings and student needs while ensuring continuity of instruction. Student Supervision Supervise students throughout the school day, including classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and dismissal as assigned. Ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Foster an atmosphere of respect, responsibility, and Christian values. Communication and Professional Responsibilities Communicate effectively with school administrators, faculty, and staff. Leave clear and accurate notes regarding lesson completion, student behavior, and any significant events. Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters. Adhere to all diocesan and school policies and procedures. Faith Formation Support and uphold the mission, philosophy, and teachings of the Catholic Church. Model Christian values and appropriate professional conduct. Participate respectfully in school prayer, liturgies, and religious activities when applicable. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred; college coursework in education or a related field strongly desired. Prior teaching, substitute teaching, or experience working with children preferred. Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and families. Flexibility to teach various grade levels and subject areas. Practicing Catholic preferred but not required. Requirements Successful completion of all required background checks and diocesan safe environment training. Ability to follow school policies and procedures. Reliable transportation and punctual attendance. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the school day. Ability to supervise students in both indoor and outdoor settings. Ability to lift and carry classroom materials and supplies as needed. Work Schedule This is an on-call, as-needed position. Assignments may vary in length from a half-day to multiple consecutive days depending on school needs.
