Position Summary:
The Substitute Teacher/Paraeducator provides temporary instructional and student support when regular classroom teachers or paraeducators are absent. The substitute is responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment while following the plans, routines, and expectations established by the classroom teacher and school. Assignments may include serving as a substitute teacher, paraeducator, or providing other student support as directed by the school.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Follow lesson plans, schedules, classroom routines, and directions provided by the regular teacher or supervising staff member.
- Provide appropriate supervision and support to students throughout the assigned school day.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment.
- Assist students with classroom activities, assignments, and learning tasks as appropriate.
- Support individual student needs and accommodations as directed by the classroom teacher or supervising staff.
- Provide instructional assistance and reinforcement of skills under the direction of licensed or certified staff.
- Monitor student behavior and follow established classroom and school behavior expectations.
- Maintain appropriate classroom management and seek assistance from school staff when needed.
- Assist with transitions, arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other assigned supervisory duties.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters.
- Communicate relevant information, concerns, or incidents to the classroom teacher, building administrator, or designee.
- Complete appropriate documentation or notes regarding the day's activities and any significant student or classroom concerns.
- Follow all WNESU policies, procedures, safety practices, and applicable state and federal requirements.
- Participate in required training as directed by WNESU.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, sit and, reach, The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 15 pounds, crouch and kneel. This position requires the ability to hear, see and speak. Work is performed in a school environment and may include classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, gymnasiums, and other school facilities. The position requires regular interaction with students and staff and may involve exposure to varying noise levels and activity levels.
