Job Description

POSITION TITLE AND DEPARTMENT
Summer Program Assistant with the Department of Healing and Wellness.
POSITION LOCATION
This position will be based in St. Paul Island, AK.
POSITION CLASSIFICATION, HOURS & WORK SCHEDULE
Temporary Appointment; Part Time (May to Aug)
JOB SUMMARY
The Summer Program Assistant supports the Recreation Program Assistant in the implementation of a summer recreation program for youth. This position will also assist with activity planning, snack preparation, cleaning and sanitizing of spaces. The Summer Program Assistant plays an important role in maintaining a safe space for children and will work under the guidance of the Recreation Program Coordinator. Hours will be Tuesday-Saturday from 1-7pm.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
The following are the Essential Job Functions of the
Summer Program Assistant:
  • Assist with preparation of healthy snacks.
  • Assist with engaging children in age-appropriate activities.
  • Assist with cleaning and sanitizing the spaces used.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining group supplies.
  • Adhere to Tribal, State, and Federal food safety and sanitation standards
  • Interact respectfully with Elders, staff, and community members
  • Attend training and meetings as required
  • Serve as a mandatory reporter and report concerns as required

To perform this job successfully, the Summer Program Assistant should have knowledge of the Internet and the following software: Outlook, Office Programs, Teams, Zoom.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, the Summer Program Assistant must meet the following criteria:
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team

  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work respectfully with Elders and community members
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be free of any felony convictions.
  • Must be free of misdemeanor convictions involving children or youth.
  • Must be free of misdemeanor convictions involving domestic violence.
  • Must be free of any charges in the last six (6) years of driving while intoxicated or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Must agree to be subject to a thorough background investigation and personal interviews by the ACSPI Human Resources and DHW personnel, including be subject to fingerprinting and a search of local, state, and national records and fingerprint files.
  • Must be free from illegal drug use, or abuse of legal drugs that impair mental or physical performance, for the past five (5) years, as determined by interview and medical testing.
  • Must abide by the ACSPI's alcohol and drug free workplace policies and submit to a pre-employment alcohol and drug test.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a temporary position with an hourly rate of $25.00 per hour dependent on experience. No Benefits
